Dr. Bridget Buxton | Archaeologist & Explorer
New Zealander Bridget Buxton received her MA (distinction) in Classics from Victoria University in Wellington, winning an NZ Young Achiever Award. She completed a PhD in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology at UC Berkeley as a Fulbright and Regents Humanities Scholar, and AAUS scientific diver. In 2006, she was hired as a Professor of History and Archaeological Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, USA, where she currently teaches Greek and Roman Civilization, Archaeology, and the History of Warfare.
Dr. Buxton’s international collaborative research projects have featured in numerous documentaries and magazine publications as well as scientific journals. In 2021, she carried the flag of the International Society of Women Geographers on the first underwater archaeological expedition to the British Indian Ocean Territory. She has participated in multiple deep sea projects, won over US$3 million in grants, and is the 11th woman to dive to RMS Titanic. Her research and expeditions have also ranged across civilizations and oceans, including Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Israel, East Africa, the Black Sea, the Indian Ocean, and New Zealand. She is a three-time recipient of the AIA McCann-Taggart public lectureship in underwater archaeology, and an adventurous innovator at the intersection of archaeology, exploration, and marine robotics.

Dan Scoville | Subsea Engineering & Exploration Leader
With over 14 years of experience in deepwater subsea systems, remotely operated tooling, and underwater exploration, Dan Scoville has spearheaded innovative projects expanding the frontiers of ocean discovery.
At Oceaneering, he managed global subsea inspection services and developed cutting-edge intervention tooling, supporting critical offshore operations worldwide. His early work in ROVs and underwater acoustics helped uncover over 20 previously uncharted shipwrecks.
Dan is a technical diver with full cave and trimix certifications, bringing advanced diving expertise to his exploration work. In 2008 he discovered HMS Ontario in Lake Ontario, a shipwreck lost for over 220 years, making a significant contribution to underwater historical research.
A proven leader in subsea technology and exploration, Dan combines technical expertise with strategic vision to push the boundaries of oceanic research and discovery.
