JUNE 8th is World Ocean & National Ocean Appreciation Day

National Ocean Appreciation Day, highlights the importance of the ocean for life on Earth and the role each of us can play in helping create a healthy ocean. The ocean is our planet’s life support system—it regulates the climate, produces over half of the oxygen we breathe, powers the global economy, and as the world’s largest ecosystem, it sustains an incredible wealth of biodiversity. The ocean also provides deep cultural, recreational, and spiritual value for people everywhere, whether they live on the coast or far inland. Officially recognized on the 8th of June each year, National Ocean Appreciation Day is more than a day - it’s a growing worldwide movement of youth leaders from all sectors uniting for the ocean. It’s also a call for ocean and climate policy action throughout the year. Global coordination of World Ocean Day was launched in 2002 by The Ocean Project. The United Nations has officially recognized the Day since 2008. World Ocean Day now mobilizes youth, NGOs, businesses, aquariums, schools, governments, and more to celebrate and protect our ocean. Celebrate with us National Ocean Appreciation Day.

One Ocean, One Climate, One Future – Together

EXPLORING OUR DEEP WORLD - WHO ARE WE

71% (362 million sq kilometers ) of the world is covered in water. We knew less about the bottom of the ocean than we do about the surface of the moon. Yet what happens underneath the surface of the water arguably is the largest influencer of what happens to our planet as a whole. What happens under the waves causes and controls the temperature, the carbon cycle, the winds, and the future of humanity. The carbon cycle of our world starts deep in the ocean and affects climate change. If we are to have any chance of preserving our world, we must understand what is happening in our oceans and deep waters.

OUR APPROACH

Our goal is to explore the deep waters of our world supporting all forms of science. We use both technology and human-power to get to the most hard-to-reach parts of the world beneath the waves.

CONSERVATION

The preservation and protection of the world's deep water is important for multiple reasons. Climate change is significantly affected by what happens deep in our oceans and lakes. As well, the marine life within those waters depends on our efforts to provide protection. 90% of the fish in our oceans have been eliminated and the remaining populations needs our protection.

CAN WE HELP YOU?
